Petroleum Club Is Born

On Friday, 23 November, in a festive background at Marriott Hotel
from Bucharest, the Opening Gala of Petroleum Club in Romania took
place, a club with 100 years tradition in many parts of the world.
Petroleum Club is a national association that intends to defend
the interests of the companies from the oil and gas industry. The
founders are determined to contribute to the improvement and the
protection for the business climate, in which the oil and gas companies
carry out their activities.
Petroleum Club is determined to contribute to assure a viable and
powerful oil and gas internal industry, recognizing that it is essential
for the national economy to provide and guarantee the energetic
outfit. The opening speech belonged to James Angelus, American citizen,
editor of "Oil and Gas Journal", who extended a welcome
to all the guests and reminded that the tradition of a petroleum
club existed for a century and at the beginning, it belonged only
to men and it had a very social character: oilmen used to drink
whisky and talk business. Three rules governed the petroleum club,
100 years ago: no tie, no wife and confidential talks. James Angelus
expressed his real satisfaction for the establishment of such a
club in Romania too, with the ungrudging help of the founders, and
his hope that this institution would play a decisive role to reinforce
the relations between all the people that work in the oil sector.
The
next speaker was Andrew Costin, president of Petroleum Club, a Romanian
naturalized in the USA, who returned after years to his origin. He
mentioned the international recognition of the Romanian oil industry
and the necessity of such an organization like Petroleum Club. He
also declared himself confident that Petroleum Club would be a bridge
between all Romanian oilmen and not only.
Dinu Patriciu, president of ROMPETROL GROUP, expressed his belief
that the establishment of such a club would eliminate the lack of
communication that exists in the Romanian oil and gas industry at
present. In his opinion - a pertinent one - if communication and
exchange of ideas between competitors don't exist, but only hate
and enmity, none of them will win, but lose.

The rector of Oil - Gas University, Ploiesti, Prof. Dr. Eng. Niculae
Napoleon Antonescu noticed the initiative of his guild colleagues
- an idea that he had been supported for a long time - and expressed
his belief that this association would offer the opportunity for
all the people who work in the oil sector to meet each other, to
exchange ideas and to do business in a relaxed, productive and coworker
environment.
After this festive moment, all the participants had been lingering
for an hour, over a glass, talking, indulging in petty politics.
